McKinney Family YMCA of Dallas, TX partners with the Sellecca/Tesh Foundation to offer the Music & Movement program free for seniors

The McKinney Family YMCA of Dallas, TX has formed a partnership with the Sellecca/Tesh Foundation of Sherman Oaks, California, to provide the Music & Movement program which offers music activities to promote successful aging and improve the quality of life for the area’s senior population.

“We’re honored and excited to forge this collaborative effort to reach out to our wonderful senior population here in McKinney,” said Kris Falvo, Executive Director of the McKinney Family YMCA. “The power of music under the auspices of this philanthropic organization will make a huge difference in the lives of those it touches.”

The mission of the YMCA is to “put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.” Falvo discovered that well-known American pianist, composer, and nationally-syndicated radio and television personality John Tesh has a passion to promote the well-being of the country’s aging population through activities associated with music. The YMCA and the Sellecca/Tesh Foundation will stand together to serve this precious and growing population by bringing them joy and cognitive stimulation through the innovative new Music & Movement program.

The first music activity was held at the McKinney Family YMCA on Thursday, September 25, 2008. During the class, a professional instructor and music therapist lead seniors in music activities in a social environment.

Through the support of the Sellecca/Tesh Foundation, the McKinney Family YMCA of Dallas TX is able to offer these classes to the community at-large. The Sellecca/Tesh Foundation looks forward to launching this program nationally through the YMCA of the USA in 2009.
